Some Good Product Support Right Out The Gate.
Published on 15 January 2013 - 21:09:48

Since there's now a product page up for Edge of the Empire, it's worth noting that two additional items will be for sale when the core rulebook hits shelves in 2nd Quarter/Spring 2013.

First up is the expected dice pack, which looks to have the same dice assortment as the Beginner Box, and with a $15 price point, which is about what I figured.

But also due to be released at the same time is the GM Kit, which has not only a GM screen and a new adventure, but also advice on building your campaign and possibly even rules/guidelines for designing your own NPCs.  It's got a $20 price point.

And we've got a confirmation on the price point of the core book.  At $60, it might be a bit steep for some folks' taste, but it's about on par with their WH40K core books, and I'm sure the production values will be just as high.

It's certainly not cheap, but it's quite reasonable for a 450 page book (I've seen smaller books with this price point).

The $15 packs of dice (14 in the set) may be a sticking point, but hopefully we can find them a little cheaper at certain vendors (like with the WFRP dice).

It's nice to see some great support out of the gate, but I'm hoping we see a few other support books. From what I've heard, there are only a handful of species, so an official species codex would be cool.

The production values on the beginners set is great as well. One of our players was pissed at himself for spilling a drink on the charecter folio =D

Yikes, sound bad. Is it possible to cover the character folios with a standard sheet plastic cover? Or do they have non-standard dimensions?

Oh, I'm sure there will be other supplements in between Edge of the Empire and the Rebelliion book slated for 2014.

There's a thread over in the Beta forum under General Discussion about what folks might like to see in the way of upcoming products, so at the very least FFG ha some consumer feedback as to what sort of supplements/sourcebooks folks might like to see.

There more like small magazines on good paper. You could take them apart and scan them to make ones for printing.

But I can not wait for this to come out. I am very excited.

This is great news.

By the way, did anyone notice that the dice packs come with it looks like 4 cardboard destiny pool tokens?  That's a nice touch.

Great catch there. They should mention it in the product description. Anything to better justify the $15 price point.

It will be a big book and I completely believe it will be high quality. But $75 to just get started? Ouch. And it's just the book and minimal dice. No big box, tokens, cards, etc.  I will of course still buy it, but I'm a game nut and have a professional career. I can't see myself at 20 years old being able to afford this. Perhaps the target audience is old fart gamers with less and less younglings wanting to get into RPGs?

I was thinking the same thing. I am in my mid 20's with a decent career, and this is still a little costly for me. Luckly I have the dice from the box set, and I bought the $5 app. So that helps bring the cost down some. I am the GM of our group so I would like to buy the gm kit.

15$ is a little steep for me for a bunch of dice. Hopefully it's n ot the only thing inside of the pack. I'll still be buying this but I do hope they bundle everything for a much cheaper price.

Some pretty good looking stuff. Art is looking awesome as well really sells Star Wars better then a lot of more recent endevours from other companies. Looking forward to it.
