can repair driod save a y-wing that takes 1 damage for being discarded

No. The Y-Wing takes 1 damage and is discarded before there's an action window. You would have to use an Interrupt: effect that prevents the damage, such as It Could Be Worse.
One does not simply warg into Hodor.
