Question about the setting of "11th Hour"
Published on 28 August 2012 - 20:48:08

I assume that many of you have read, if not actually played the 11th Hour introductory scenario.

I read it over last night with the hopes of running it for my weekly gaming group on Wednesday night.  Seems like a fun little scenario. But I'm having a hell of a time imagining the setting properly in my head.

It's said that the Teeming is a crater from an asteroid impact.  In it, the jungle grows differently and is more hostile than the rest of the planet.  Fine.  Cool.

A bit later, they say that the Teeming rests at the top of some highlands.  Between the jungle and the highlands, is a vast swamp which, apparently, originates in the Teeming.  Which doesn't add up.

You have to take some sort of switchback path UP to the Teeming which is, itself a crater.  How is the water getting out of the crater?  Where is the waterfall they talk about?  They state that the water flows AWAY from the Teeming into the swamp and from there, via a river, to the sea.  Shouldn't the Teeming be a big lake?!

Am I the only one who is bothered by this?  Can someone else imagine a way that this works?

Actually, the more I re-read the whole scenario the more I feel like it would benefit greatly from two additions: a map and a "setting the scene" description added to each encounter.

I am working on adding both (and making some changes to the physical layout of the terrain) and will post when done.

I'm not sure I see the problem. Water drains from the Teeming into the swamp. If it didn't do so (if crater was watertight) then yeah, it'd turn into a big lake, but that's not the case - the water obviously gets out and therefore needs to go somewhere, hence swamp.

Disclaimer: The views expressed in this post are my own. I do not speak for FFG in any capacity, officialotherwise. To be honest they don't really tell me much about anything, so you can assume I don't know squat.

I mean diddly. I don't know diddly. I did not mention squats. Squats are not making a comeback.

Unless they are. I really don't know!!! Seriously. Though squats were cool. Pity they all got eaten by the 'nids. Or did they?
