They are the thin line that protects mankind. They are the Imperial Guard.

Which enemies?

So, what enemies do you think will be the main ones in the new Game? In my experience Dark Heresy had Chaos and Hereteks (and alot more but I thought those two got the most focus), Rogue Trader had all manner of stuff, Deathwatch had Tyranids, Chaos and Tau while Black Crusade seems to have the Eldar, Necrons and Imperials as the main enemies, and other Chaos followers of course. My basic belief is that they will do it kind of like Deathwatch in its set up.

So what I think, and hope, is that the Orks will have a place as the Imperial Guard vs Orks are seems just as iconic to me as Imperial Space Marines vs Chaos Space Marines are.

Secondly I would think that Chaos will have a part as they seem to have played a pretty big part as enemies in all the ealier Imperial lines so Chaos in one form or another seems like a good choice.

For the third I would imagine that there will be the Dark Eldar or Eldar honestly. My reasoning for this is that the masses of enemies coming screaming at you-thing is done by the Orks and the utter evil is done by Chaos. And that means that I think they'll have some enemy that can possibly be bargined with and also will fight very differently from the other two and so offer different scenarios. Possibly the new Necrons could do this as well but they are not awakening yet according to the official timeline and since I think that the new Sector, and I think it will be a new Sector, is likely to be close to the other parts of the line I think that the Tau are to far away. If they made some entirely new xenos race to face the Imperial Guard that would be very cool but I think they will go with the great, well known and iconic races for the main enemies.

That's some loose thoughts on the issue. I'd love to hear some of what you other guys think.

Based on the description for "Eleventh Hour", I believe you'll get your wish regarding Orks. Chaos seems pretty much a sure thing too. I gotta ask however, why stop at only 3 bad guys? I know that's how Deathwatch did it, but I figure they could squeeze in one or two more for OW.

I really like Dark Eldar as bad guys, and would love to see them show up in OW. I also am really hoping for Tyranids, I just love those hungry little guys! I think they would make awesome plush toys. I don't think a whole set of new Tyranid stats is really necessary though, as they exist in Dark Heresy and Deathwatch. A good GM can just take the stats from DW and tone them down a bit for OW. However, I'm a real collector, so I'm one of those people that actually wouldn't mind a whole new set of Tyranid stats specifically for OW.

Eldar and Tau I'm not so keen on as bad guys, but I love Necrons. As you pointed out however, the timeline isn't right for Necrons to show up in force. I'm also hoping for some minor xenos to show up like the Loxatl, Lacrymole, and maybe a few others.

 My guess:

- Orks
- Chaos (Renegades)
- Dark Eldar
- Tau

There are no female Space Marines. Don't believe me?

Gender & Appearance
Due to the special nature of the zygotes that make up a Space Marine's geneseed, all Space Marines are male.

So enough with the Female Marine threads…

Yeah, I'm thinking Orks will be the main 'focus enemy' of the game.  They're just the ones that make the most sense for a guard game, being the ones most likely to be fought.

Chaos/Human power of some sort.  Another good one, enemies on a similar scale of power and all.

Otherwise, yeah, not a lot.  Maybe some mention of other groups is my thoughts.  Especially 'nids, being another real possibility.
