Wish List for POD Expansions
Published on 08 March 2012 - 03:51:12

As we have a new forum it is time to start the wish list:-

I'll start with:-

1) a bunch of Mundane (and not so mundane) item cards.

2) As Dread Fleet Captains ties WFRP in with one of GW's specialist games I would like to see as WFRP Bloodblowl Expansion.

3) More pets / horse cards (which I know are a different size than the rest of the POD cards)

4) More serious wounds (again different size but I want to increase the chance of my players losing an arm!)

Give me more fluff and less rules

I agree with all of the above, especially 3 and 4, and would like to add the following wishes:

  • A set of location cards, I used location to build a city in a session not far ago. It was very well recieved by the players. So more "mundane" locations would be cool, as it is now there are such a limited number of "normal" locations (most are adventure specific or kind of strange) so every city/village will be the same.
  • More runes and inventions for the dwarven runesmiths and engineers.
  • Rank 4 and 5 actions that are not spells/blessings. In the Hero's Call there were very few action cards besides spells/actions and some more epic attacks, defences and social cards would be great.
  • An errata set that fixes all the cards that are misprinted up till now. Sure, it's like FFG would ask money for their own mistakes, but I'd buy it and those that don't want to can use the FAQ-page to print out errata cards. And well, the errata cards are already created for the errata page, so it would be real easy for FFG to put together a set.
  • Basic action, all new GM's seem to ask the same thing. "how many people does the core set support? How do I add more players?". Sure, basic actions are included in a number of other boxes, but a POD with two sets or something might help a new GM to add more players to the game at a (relatively) low cost.

Ooh, an Errata box. I like this idea. I agree though, it's like FFG asking money for their own mistakes. But meh, I don't care, I just want a set of correct cards.

As mentioned, I'd love a pet expansion. But, like many other expansions I'd like, it would need the career-size sheets, instead of just normal sized cards.

Another idea popped into my mind, some more retainer cards could also be added to a POD. Maybe including lower tier retainers, that cost less but aren't as useful as those included in the Lure of Power.

Hi,

Liking the errata and npc retainer suggestions. Would like to see dark magick getting a bit more detail. Specifically necromancy and demonology summoning action cards. At the moment theres not much to tempt a PC teetering on the edge of the dark side, offerings of Morrish spirit summoning all the way through to bringing forth the army of darkness would really help. How does a fallen Gold Magister bind a deamonette to his personal service I ask you?

We really needs us some more Woof Elf eligible careers and related stuff.  Compared to the other races from core set they are poor cousins.  Just like Faith/Order specific things seem good for PODs, race/region specific ones also seem good.

  1. Errata POD with new cards for ALL those with errors.
  2. Style PODs for combat. Zweihander style, Diestro style, drunken style, ninja style, assassin style, etc.
  3. Item POD, with different items.
  4. Specific standup PODs (beastmen, orcs, goblins etc.)

Yes, more combat style cards would be great.  I also agree that we need more dark magic cards that would tempt players to consider the dark arts.

I would also like to see a pack of mutation cards.  Our current set of mutations are weighted toward blatant or undesirable traits.  Drawing from the mutation deck could be more like drawing from a Deck of Many Things.  Knowing that there are some really cool and subtle things in there would add a tension to every draw.  Things like enhanced characteristics and weird magical abilities like teleportation and clairvoyance.

They can as well do the same they have already done for sigmarite priests but for other spell casters.

It occurs to me that POD could open up a different way of releasing adventures.  Sell a PDF of the adventure that covers people that want to play WFRP Lite and then a POD expansion containing NPCs, location, item and action cards.  Probably wouldn't work for a big adventures but might work for small ones.

I agree.  I'm sure small adventures along the lines of maybe 8 - 10 pages could be sold in pdf form around each of the themed releases.  This would be beneficial on so many levels.  Regular releases helps promote the game in general.  Many Players and GM's alike will be interested in the card releases for the expanded options.  GM's will eat up any adventure produced, even small ones, as long as they are decent.  This would also help promote new players as these types of adventures would be perfect for cons and the like.

POD also opens up the possibility of expanded optional rules. For instance, a new set of Random Encounter rules and a deck of Random Encounter cards.

My group would like a POD with a collection of weapons and specific action cards tied to them. For example, instead of all swords beiing handweapons give them subtle diffrences that can be activated through the action cards. Like a scimitar would do more damage to an adversary wearing leather than against one wearing steel armor.

Also I support the call for more Wood-elf stuff and location cards.

I like the errata POD idea.

Not too enthused at the thought of elf-PODs, I'd just like to see the Empire fleshed out first.

I'd like to see some focus on social actions, as there is there is a lot of variety between combat actions, but social actions often seem lacking.

I truly like the precedent set by to two types of packs they have revealed thus far and hope for more of the latter (High Seas) in the future.

I would like to see small fleshed out factions suitable for dropping into an adventure that is escalating too quickly or quickly inserting into one that is completely derailed. For example:

Hoskin's Caravan PoD Pack

NPC/MONSTER CARDS
Haus Hoskins, Human Textiles Merchant
Orgg Bonepicker, Ogre Bodyguard
Elaine Hoskins, Human Seamstress
Loyal Mule (Mount stats)
Jacque Silt, Halfling Driver
Gendry Anders, Human Tradesman
Yurich Topps, Human Roadwarden
Yurich's Wardens

LOCATION CARDS
Textiles Wagon
Eroded Cartpath
Merchant Hall
Tailor's Shop
Wagon Checkpoint

ITEM CARDS
Cathayan Silks
Trade Goods - Textiles
Mysterious Bundle (ambiguously named plot hook item)

ACTION CARDS
Easy, Girl // Yah, Mule!
It's All in the Presentation
Smuggler's Inseam
Pat Down
Don't Eat the Mule // Mule Stew
Stitch by Stitch
Fantastic Tale //  Scary Story
...
...
...

SPECIAL CARDS
Trade in the Empire (A couple flavorful paragraphs about cloth trade in the empire with a small trade route map on the back)
Hoskins' Story (A tidbit on what secrets Hoskin's is hiding that might lead to an investigation or adventure)
Jacque's Story (An alternative or additional tidbit that might lead to an investigation, adventure, or conflict with other stories)
Yurich's Story (An alternative or additional tidbit that might lead to an investigation, adventure, or conflict with other stories)

===

Even without the text on the cards themselves, the names provide all of the members of a merchant caravan, a contact at their destination, and an adversary to the caravan. From the names of cards provided, the GM can begin to imagine that the merchant himself is a practiced smuggler, or perhaps an unwitting pawn to the halfling's double agenda, or even has been falsely accused/set up. A few more specific action cards would help better define the "faction" even without paragraphs of text from a source book. Also, a few more action cards of a more PC-nature towards legitimate trade or underworld dealings would help flesh out the desirability of the packet. The story cards each would provide 1-2 plot hooks that represent the specific goals of the named NPCs while the NPC cards themselves have stats, skills, and a few distinguishing traits.

With just the cads listed, one could flesh out an encounter on the road, on an urban street, or from a merchant house or inn if Hoskins needs more muscle for a trip. It is broad enough as a whole to be resolved socially or militantly or by investigation, and the "story" cards allow for more concrete plot developments. Depending on the players' and PC's natures, they are likely to side with one member or another.

I'm not sure what would make a golden ratio, but
~10 Characters/Creatures with Portrait/Stats
~4 of which have agendas/secrets (Stories)
~2 Map/Fluff Blurb
~4 Locations
~14 Action Cards (at least 1/3 designed to be usable by players)
~3 Item Cards
~2 Special Cards (trackers, unique circumstances, experimental mechanics, general tools, tokens, etc.)
