Come on guys.....what the **** was that. I had 2 pretty good games and one terrible.
Funny thing. I had enought tokens on 3b in round 5.......yes the other 18 rounds were just for the victory points. And I didn´t fight once. So no cards were lost due to shadow cards.
In the third game I had 6 victory points in the staging are but couldn´t quest faste enough......
In game 3 there was one time were I had freezing cold on every hero.
Man If not for game 2 this would have been a great result.....

And yes, the one thing about RG I don't like is that you totally depend on those VP cards. Athough Dead Marshes is more annyoing when you have to wait for Gollum to return.

I wanted to play the whole bunch before I post my first results......so it took some time. Also I did want to finally beat Escape from DG.
Yeah RG can be really annoying. And I think it is the worst in terms ob bad luck. There are only 4 cards with VP I think. And Dimril Stair is nice but isn´t enough to win you the game....
Dead marshes al least lets you manage the tokens gollum gets.....

I only used a single core set and all of the expansions available to date. I loaded up my deck with every single attachment that boosts willpower. Miner of the Iron Hills is also key to get rid of that nasty freezing cold condition. Also added the usual suspects: Steward of Gondor, Sneak Attack, Unexpected Courage, Fast Hitch, A Test of Will, The Galadhrim's Greeting, Hasty Stroke, Northern Tracker and Protector of Lorien.
Just realized I have been scoring incorrectly. I've been tallying a round at the start of each round as opposed to at the end during the refresh phase so all of my scores to date have been 10 points too high since they all have 1 extra round counted. If it's ok, I'd like to resubmit my scores making this correction. New scores would be 110, Failure, 104.

Well i certainly learnt a lesson today! Absolutely enjoyed this Scenario. I had a good encounter card draw with mainly locations coming out in the first few rounds which enabled me to build up a good bunch of allies and progress nicely. Gandalf came along to swat an enemy half way through but apart from that it was easy going. I thought" is this a level 7?". Games 2 & 3 showed me that yes it was a high level quest!! Game 2 i was swamped by Mountain Wargs in the first few turns which i never really recovered from and was killed off in 4 rounds. Then in Game 3 i unbelievably drew 3 Black Uruks in the first 4 cards!! I wasnt luck enough to pull a Galadrhims Greeting or a Gandalf to lower my threat so when i hit 32 threat down they all came . I battled for a few rounds but by round 9 a Mountain Troll came out and that was that. I will have a look at my deck and re-jig it a bit but overall i had a lot of fun playing this quest and will work on trying to combat early threat from enemies. Will give it another go this month and see if i can break into that Top 10!!!

I had some insane luck in my first try of this. I got Celebdil as the setup card and lots of Gandalfs and sneaks in my hand. Even though the game went rather fast I managed to get Gandalf out 5 times, hence my low threat.
My second game was the complete opposite. I went through all of my deck and then had to wait five more rounds until the right location finally showed up. I also made the mistake of letting the Uruks take my only copy of Thrors map, which would have shortened the game by one round.
Third game was OK. I got Celebdil as a shadow card in the very first round, but luckily i didn't have to wait too long for the other location.

I just had to try this scenario with some encounter deck manipulation so I switched out Ori for Denethor and also put in 2 Shadows of the Past. The hero switch really changed the gameplay, it almost became a totally different scenario! Now I really had to struggle to accumulate the willpower to climb those mountains (I spent three turns getting past Celebdil in one game with two steps forward and one step back). And without Ori the massive card draw I was used to just wasn't there anymore. Starting with one less dwarf also made it harder to get Thorin's ability to kick in, which meant less resources as well. But I think Denethor’s “mountain finding” ability made up for all that, especially as he got stuffed with cram all the time.
In game 1 I used Gandalf once to draw cards. I usually never do this but this time it was really helpful and shortened the game by one turn.
In game 2 I was totally prepared for a loss because I got a very rough start with enemies swarming me from all directions. By the second round I was engaged with two mountain wargs, and in the following turns a mountain troll and a third mountain warg joined them! Luckily I got two Gandalfs out early but no sneaks so I had to spend all my resources on getting out Gandalf twice to kill off two of those wargs. The third warg I managed to kill with Thorin, but it took several rounds of annoying hide and seek. Meanwhile the troll was crushing my allies one by one until I finally made a joint effort with almost all my characters to kill it. I also defeated two damaged orc enemies in one go by playing a Longbeard Orc Slayer. All my heroes were down to the last hitpoint and my allies died like flies. All this fighting of course meant that the encounter deck was cycling fast, and it was almost empty when finally Celbdil showed up as a shadow card. Luckily I had Shadows of the Past in hand so that I could retrieve the location and finally eke out a win. This was really a tough and memorable game!
Game 3 went smooth. I got an early Dimrill Stairs (first time I’ve seen this card in all my six games hitherto) and luckily I had exactly two non-victory locations in the discard, so I didn’t have to worry about my threat for the rest of the game. With a hungry Denethor as the guide the heroes eventually found Celebdil and climbed the mountains without too much effort.

Round 1: Draw Ride to Ruin. Put North Tracker on table and everyone goes to quest, Arwen gets another resource to Frodo and Tracker puts a progress on Caradhras and Knees. Reveal Warg Lair and add a Mountain Warg, soving Rocky Crags and putting 2 progress on quest. Travel to Knees of Mountain.
Round 2: Draw another Tracker. Goes to quest with everyone, Arwen gets another Resource to Frodo, Tracker puts a progress on Caradhras and Warg Lair and reveal Freezing Cold, who goes on Bifur. Solve Knees and puts 2 more on quest. Travel to Warg Lair.
Round 3: Draw Lórien Guide and play it. Exhaust Gleo to draw Strenght of Will. Play Galad Greets. Goes to quest with everyone but Bifur, Arwen gets resource to Frodo, Caradhras gets another one for Tracker and Warg Lair for Guide. Reveal Rocky Crags, solving Warg Lair and drawing Test of Will; Travel to Crags and deal 2 damage on Tracker.
Turn 4: Draw Escort, play Gandalf using 4 resources from Bifur, reduce threat and goes to quest with everyone but Bifur; Arwen gets resource to Eowyn, Caradhras gets another one for Tracker and Rocky from Guide. Reveal Black Uruks for no effect, resolving Crags and finishing the quest.
Turn 5: Draw Stand and Fight, play both Escorts, go to quest with everyone but Bifur, Arwen gets resource to Frodo, Caradhras gets another one for Tracker, reveal Fallen Stones that is cancelled by Test of Will and solve the quest. Caradhras becomes active.
Turn 6: Draw Zigil Miner. Use Ride to Ruin discarding Gleo to put 3 counter on Caradhras. Put Finnest in table and discard it to solve Caradhras, getting 3 points. go to quest with everyone but Bifur, Arwen gets resource to Frodo and reveal Bitter Winds draining my pool and putting 6 progress tokens on quest.
Turn 7: Draw Lorien Guide, brings Gleo back with Stand and Fight, exhaust to draw Gandalf, goes to quest with everyone but Bifur and Lorien Guide, Arwen gets resource to Frodo and reveal Fanuidhol putting 2 progress on quest. Travel to Fanuidhol, using Strength of Will with Lorien Guide to put 2 counters on it.
Turn 8: Draw Galad Greets, draw Hasty Stroke with Gleo, use Ride to Ruin with Gleo to put 3 more counters on Fanuidhol, goes to quest with everyone but Bifur, Arwen gets one more resource to Frodo and Guide puts 1 more counter on Fanuidhol. Reveal Mountain Troll, spend resource from Frodo and Eowyn to use their will, solve Fanuidhol and put more 3 progress on quest.
Turn 9: Draw Ride to Ruin, put Gandalf in play to reduce threat, goes to quest with everyone but Bifur, Arwen gets one more resource to Frodo and reveal Snow Warg, finally solving this quest.
My intent is solve Caradhras as soon as possible and worked on the first time. Problably need more Rohan allies to work, but for this try is ok, so I will give another shot; I managed to put my threat low, but I am not sure if will work again.

Turn 12: Draw North Tracker, Gleo draws another Guide. Goes with everyone but Frodo, Bifur and both Finest, Arwen make a resource to Eowyn who puts Bofur in play, reveal Snow Warg, quest not success so Bofur goes out and Mountain Goblin comes to attack me. Defend with Frodo, shadow is Fanuidhol (really ???), Fast Hitch Frodo and attack with him, Bifur and both Finest for 2 wounds.
Turn 13: Draw Gandalf, put in play killing the Snow Warg. Goes to quest on the same as last turn, reveal Avalanche and commit the others. Fast Hitch readies Frodo who defends the goblin, shadow Fell Voices.
Turn 14: Draw Unexpected Courage, put North in table, goes to quest the same as last turn, reveal Celedil (at last !!!), use Ancestral exhausting Bifur and sacrificing both Finest to solve it.
The core of deck worked again, solving Caradhras on first opportunity and with backup to solve the others as soon as they appear. It take from turn 8 to 14 to some victory points show up but I managed to finish it.

Round 2: Draw Fast Hitch, play it on Frodo. Play Galad Greets, goes to quest same way and discarding Strength to finish the quest.
Round 3: Draw Ride to Ruin. Put Zigil in play and goes to quest same way. Reveal Rocky Crags, threat +2 and Bofur going out. Travel to Crags, doing 2 damage on Eowyn.

Turn 7: Draw Ancestral Knowledge, goes to quest same way, reveal another Goblin. Frodo and Bifur defends, shadow is Fell Voices (Frodo – 1 threat) and Mountain Goblin on Bifur – killing him.
There is no way to win this game, so I forfeit. I think I can tune this deck but will maintain this score for now, as I need to play another ones.

Turn 14: Draw Unexpected Courage, put North in table, goes to quest the same as last turn, reveal Celedil (at last !!!), use Ancestral exhausting Bifur and sacrificing both Finest to solve it.
The core of deck worked again, solving Caradhras on first opportunity and with backup to solve the others as soon as they appear. It take from turn 8 to 14 to some victory points show up but I managed to finish it.

Thanks for posting such detailed report, I've learnt a few things from you.
However, problems occured in turn 5 of game 1, when the quest went to stage 3 during the quest phase. Bifur with Freezing Cold attached would be discarded since his willpower is 0 (2 minus 2); besides, Lorien Guide would also be discarded since his printed willpower is only 1 and he was questing (until the end of quest phase), when Caradhras became the active location, his willpower will be 0 (1 minus 1). Both issues did not have large impacts on later play of the game, but the score would be 7 points higher as Bifur is dead.
It shows that a spirit-heavy deck will solve this quest with not much trouble, especially when you can keep your threat level low so as not to engage the large enemies.
