Heroes: Gloin, Gimli, Beravor
Game 1 Result: 137
Final Threat Level: 41
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 0
Victory Points Earned: 4 (Hill Troll)
Number of Rounds Completed: 10
A new try on a resource deck; Gloin take everything he cans, and on this game 2 Citadel Plates, Steward of Gondor, 2 Self Preservation and 2 songs make him the hero with most attachments in all my history. I never defends, gets all damage on him (Gimli near the trolls to pump up) and get resources to heal it. As I draw a lot with Beravor normally I take the cards on my hand. Gandalf showed up 2 times to reduce threat, and a Hill Troll tried to hinder me without success. I think this deck can make better, if I get used with him. UNluckly only Gandalf diminishes threat and I wish to make better. A better result than my last one, at least – problably need to check if I cannot do it in less rounds. Ah, forgot to mention that a Beorn Hospitality in last combat round cleaned all 10 damage on GLoin, 2 damage on Beravor and 4 damage on Gimli. I think I will never use that, but is really a show :D

Game 2 Result: 122
Final Threat Level: 22
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 0
Victory Points Earned: 0
Number of Rounds Completed: 10
A better result, mainly because I played Gandalf 5 times for threat reduction. I draw almost all deck and play almost all cards. After Gloin gets the Plate, he starts to be a tank of damage… ah, and a Beorn Hospitality on last action of the game cleaned me again.

Game 3 Result: 137
Final Threat Level: 21
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 0
Victory Points Earned: 4 (Troll)
Number of Rounds Completed: 12
This time I was healed by my means without Beorn. A Grim Resolve on last turn readied 3 Daughters to heal Gimli and Beravor after they have healed Gloin during resource phase. Nice deck, maybe I can achieve better with it.

My decklist:
3 Daughter of the Nimrodel
2 Self Preservation
2 Citadel Plate
1 Song of Battle
1 Song of Wisdom
3 Rivendell Minstrel
2 Steward of Gondor
2 Parting Gifts
2 Gleowine
3 Gandalf
2 Sneak Attack
1 Dwarrowdelf Axe
1 Beorn
2 Son of Arnor
1 Faramir
3 Snowbourn Scout
2 Strider's Path
2 Miner of the Iron Hills
2 Feint
1 Grim Resolve
2 Erebor Record Keeper
2 Rumour from the Earth
2 Valiant Sacrifice
3 Dunedain Mark
2 Ever Vigilant
1 Beorn's Hospitality

Hi Nerdmeister. Welcome!

Am I to assume from your post that games 2 and 3 were both losses? Or have you not played those games yet?

If you haven't played them yet, it would be best to wait and post all 3 results at one time.

Seeking clarification before making an update here.

Thanks.

Haven´t played those yet. Assumed it was how things were done and taking my sweet time with them :P

I´ll be trying to have done the last 2 plays before the end of the week (time permitting)

I delayed using Asfaloth at a critical point in this game and it almost cost me the whole round. Barely managed to pull through

Game 3 Result: 184
Final Threat Level: 37
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 6

First round of questing finds Glorfindel sacked and the game was up-hill from there. Luckily I managed to get Grimbeorn to help me (for the only time in all 3 games) and was finally able to rescue Glorfindel from his predicament around round 11

Afterthough: While this is a good solid deck build, which managed to win the game in all 3 matches, it does take a bit of time to get running properly on a challenge posed by the 4 trolls. All in all, I´m satisfied by my win/loss ratio which didn´t feel like I was just being lucky.

PS: Sorry about double post. For some reason I can´t find my edit post button. Was there the other day, I´m sure of it

Horn of Gondor + Sneak Attacked Gandalf + Unexpected Courage x3 on Beravor - it works.

Not to forget Will of the West, without which the combo doesn't work. And SoG, Common Cause, Grim Resolve, the Songs, For Gondor!… it's one heck of a deck…

Beravor can only use her ability once per round as per latest FAQ now, right?

I think this deck can make better, if I get used with him.

I have a very old article about exactly that strategy vs exactly that quest. It contains some strategy discussion and two turn by turn plays with final scores of 134 and 112. Maybe that is helpful for you. Here is the link:

javascript:void(0);/*1344592601672*/

Especially with the errata on Beravor, many of the top scores seem to be not repeatable anymore and a 112 is looking pretty alright. But the cardpool has greatly increased since then, so you can probably best that.

(Oh and thanks to an unlucky Hill Troll showing up on the last turn, a score of 103 was actually within my grasp)

I have tried to build a well scoring post-faq1.3 deck to beat the Carrock. It had to be a Dwarven deck because of Gloin and all the opportunities dwarves have to kill the big foes. I removed weapons and armor and focused on a card draw especially through Legacy of Durin + plenty of dwarf allies and Daeron's Runes. I used Gandalf + Sneak primarily to threat reduction, weak allies (eagles mostly, if they had no other use) to defend (and die) and Erebor Battle Master to destroy one troll each round. Good strategy is to use Lure of Moria when there are all trolls in the staging area and threat is very high: all dwarves commit to quest, explore Carrock at best and then ready to attack.

Deck list (50):

Hero (3)
Bifur (KD) x1
Dain Ironfoot (RtM) x1
Gloin (Core) x1

Hmm, I get progressively worse at this quest. In the last one I suffered two sacks, fortunately only after getting Grimbeorn on my side. (I could have possibly won without getting him on my side so early, but I like to play it safe sometimes.)

Finally done with this quest. I'm not fond of it, not compared to the first quest in the Hobbit saga.

Everything went well this game.  Hill Troll showing up the turn I was going to win pushed the game out for one round longer than I was hoping.

Setup worked perfectly.  No serious issues from the encounter deck.  Beravor was sacked for the last two rounds, but it didn't bother too much.

Final Threat Level: 22
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0

Early Misty Mountain Goblins followed by Moss Adder slowed me down.  By the time I got to part two Dunhere was stacked and I had 2x Sneak in hand, so the trolls fell quickly.

Posting Your Results (Optional Information):
Deck created with Core x2, Hunt for Gollum, Carrock, Rhosgobel, and Hills of Emyn Muil.  The basic strategy was to keep threat low, build up Dunhere with Dunedain Marks and Unexpected Courage, and draw cards (Beravor, Gleowine, Wealth of Lorien, Ancient Mathom).  Dunhere + Sneaky Gandalf killed the trolls in each game.  I never actually got Grimbeorn to join me as I didn't have a fast enough resource engine, even with steward, to make it worth it.
