This tournament is part of the Living Tournament system. You are welcome to read this, play the scenario, and post your results (in that order). Place well enough, and you may just end up with a Living Tournament World Ranking!
Scenario: The Hunt for Gollum
Deck Parameters: Open Build*
Number of Players: Solo Player
Tournament Parameters:
1) This is a Living Tournament. You may play and post results at your own pace.
2) *Open Build means you may use any legal LOTR LCG cards at your availability.
3) A valid result in this tournament consists of reporting your results (wins and losses) from 3 back-to-back games (may be spread out over as much time as you like), using the same deck for each of those 3 games. (Please observe the mulligan rule, and all other rules, from the LOTR LCG rulebook and subsequent official FAQ documents.)
4) After you post your results, the results from your 3 games will be calibrated using the RGun formula** to obtain your Weighted Result.
5) Weighted Results will then be ranked against other player’s Weighted Results, and the rankings will be updated over time as new results are posted to the thread.
6) You may play this tournament as many times as you would like (so you can try out different deck builds over time), but you can only hold one spot in the overall tournament rankings at a time (i.e. this gives you a chance to try and best your own result while only occupying one spot in the rankings).
7) Do not cheat. Just don’t. It destroys the fun and integrity of the tournament system. If you realize you have made a mistake at a later date that had serious implications for a result you had posted in the past, please make a new post in this thread drawing attention to that fact – that past result will be invalidated, and of course, you are welcome (and highly encouraged) to try again.
**The RGun formula has been designed to value both Final Score (per game) and overall Win Ratio (from your 3 games, cumulative). The formula is: (Average Score of Games Won) x (Total Games Played/Games Won). For an expanded discussion on how this formula was created, you can read the thread called Measuring Success.

Dwarves are on the hunt!
Unfortunatly their small legs aren't made to catch that slimy creature. My previous used deck with Glóin, Dáin and Bifur lost three times in a row. My usual win ratio is around 70-80 percent against HfG, so I decided to give those dwarves a last chance. As I am a Bilbo player, I tried something different:
TACTICS
Dáin got new company by Thalin and Gimli. And lots of eagles. Radagast joned their fellowship, too. The results aren't overwhelming, but at least I managed to win all three games (though the first one was a bitch):

I probably should build a non dwarven deck, but I wanted to get through the cycle with the little men. Perhaps I'm going to include Dwalin and the spirit sphere to handle all those locations. Would Frodo count as a dwarf? Dam would certainly disagree, but from 200 feet distance he really looks like a dwarf...

Furry feet does not dwarf make. Can Frodo even grow a beard? Plus, how can you be a dwarf while resisting the One Ring for so long? Nuh-uh, he ain't no dwarf

After some adjustments I can say that this deck isn't too bad. It doesn't achieve the results of my rabbit decks, but it is stable with 11 wins out of 13 games. In all three above games I had Sneak/Gandalf. Most awesome was my starting hand in game 1: 2x Gandalf, Radagast, Faramir, Veteran of Nanduhirion, Steward of Gondor. And I got Sneak Attack in round 3.
Strategy: Get Radagast or Faramir in your starting hand. Gandalf is of course also welcome, as you have to lower your threat once you reach 35. Radagast adds 2 WP during the quest phase and buys you eagles. Faramir can accelerate your progress. Questing still can be a problem, especially if you draw too many locations. One of my losses was because I run out of threat with 4 locations in the staging area (yep, the good Old Ford). However, you should be able to have7-10 WP after round 3, whic is usually enough to make enough progress. Ganfdalf or Durin's Song can give you the additional WP to finish a stage.
Hint: Shadow of the Past can be very useful in this scenario, as it increases your chance to find Gollum's Trail.
Deck list:
Neutral (8):
3x Gandalf
3x Radagast
2x Shadow of the Past
Tactics (26):
3x Veteran of Nanduhirion
3x Veteran Axehand

3x Eagles of the Misty Mountains
2x Winged Guardian
3x Vasall of the WIndlord
2x Support of the Eagles
2x Dwarrowdwelf Axe
2x Feint
2x The Eagles are coming!
2x Khazâd! Khazâd!
Leadership (16):
2x Faramir
2x Longbeard Orc Slayer
3x Snowbourn Scout
2x Steward of Gondor
1x Celebrán's Stone
2x Sneak Attack
2x Valiant Sacrifice
2x Durin's Song

Thanks for sharing, leptokurt! I'd like to try your deck and hopefully I can learn to play better :) Besides, I'm tired of my Spirit Rohan deck built from the start and would like to try Tactics deck.

My first try at this quest. Using 2x core set and cards from HfG. I didn't really tweak my deck too much from Journey Down the Anduin, which was probably a mistake as I lost the first couple of attempts at this quest. I added cards that dealt with locations a bit better and left out a large chunk of my tactics cards, which resulted in three straight wins. I'll probably be trying this quest again in the next couple of days with some more changes to my deck to see if I can improve my scores.

Not so many to talk; I need to kill 3 Hunters from Mordor, what slow me as I have 2 clues on table since beginning. Far from my best result.

Some bad draws let me stay for 2 turns more than I really need. This hinder my points. Old Waves Tales make me start the game with everyone tapped, so no quest on phase 1. Gandalf showed up 3 tomes to reduce threath + Galad Greetings, so a good score at least.
Game 3 Result: 96
Final Threat Level: 14
Threat Cost of Each Dead Hero: 0
Damage Tokens on Remaining Heroes: 2 (on Dunhere and Theodred)
Victory Points Earned: 0
Number of Rounds Completed: 8
Gandalf showed up 4 times now, and really helps to reduce threath 3 times and kill a Hunter from Mordor one time. Very risky, as only 1 Clue appeared during the game and I need to use a event to cancel it to be shuffled in the deck. Is not my best run, but it is close (my best run is 87).

It's been an easy one. After seeing the great results of muemakan, I mounted a Spirit-Lore deck with those heroes, and proved great with this quest.

My games tend to have an awful long time til the clues come up. And then, I almost never get a treachery to guard it....so I have to kill the enemy first or explore the location. Resulted in quite a few lost turns....

I had a lot of luck with the clues... a couple of times it went out the firsts round, and the other one lasted not much more. I tend to exploit the forced part of stage 1B in order to make out the clues quickly. I prefer to not quest so heavily a couple of turns until I have a clue out, and since then, going fast forward.
Greetings.

Puh, don´t know how McMutton does it.....If I am lucky and get an early clue....there sure will be a way I lose it again. And if I don´t get a clue, well.....

Do you always get treacheries to guard your clues? If not, how do you deal with attached enemies or locations?
couple of turns.....sounds funny for your 3 round game.
