Does anyone uses Beorn hero?

I'm just curious. Going to pick up Hobbit some time soon, just wondering how does he feels and how useful he is.

yes i do- and hes great, though you need to work a little harder to get use out of him

i had some friends round recently and we played 3 player with beorn as a sentinel. he was very good against defending against those weak attack goblins of which the hobbit has so many. he's also an effective killer which is useful.

the main downside is of course the lack of player effects working on him, however remember you have dori and fortune or fate to recycle him.

overall i think with the art, theme and sentinel he is a good hero

I can see him being a good pick to fend off those nasty 1 attack enemies(though attack boosting shadows may spoil it a bit), and if you own only one core set, Fortune may never even show up on your hand :(

i only have 1 core set, though you can increase your chances of picking it - imladris stargazer, dearons runes etc….remember also that it is very unlikely he'll die early on in the game, so hopefully you will have had several rounds of card drawing to get it

also pair him with someone like bilbo to increase your card draw, or frodo to give him good meal to get a cheap fortune or fate for 3 cost

Or two good meals to play the card for 1 cost?..

The irony is I have good meals but don't have Frodo

Does the effect of "Fortune or Fate" not count as a player card effect?  Wouldn't Beorn be immune to it, since it acts directly on him?  Effect would be: move from discard pile to in-play.  Seems analogous to something like "move from active location to staging area," a la West Road Traveler, which we know is thwarted by player card immunity (like Carrock, East-gate).

I imagine he would be similarly immune to Landroval's effect.

this was clarified to work as beorn is technically not in play so his immune to player cards doesnt work
