Hi,

I haven't been able to play yet as the box was minus the quest book so I was wondering if there's any way to download the manuel(new one is in the mail) or at least so other starter quests to play until the book arrives?

I think the manual should be here in 3-4 weeks as we're up in sunny Canada and it takes forever to get mail from the States…

The Quest Guide isn't made available for free.

well, I did pay $85 bucks for the game so technically it's not "free", but I was hoping for user made quests to help us get started since staring at the box right now is all we can do…

I contacted FFG regarding a PDF of the Quest Book and they responded that they have never released Quest Books on PDF in the past and the liklihood of it happening for 2e is slim to none.

I did find downloadable content here although the Descent section only features Descent 1st edition.

The fan made quests was what I was hoping might be available for 2nd edition.

I'll read up on the game rules while I await the quest guide in the mail…

I see FFG's point of view, though - one share and a huge part of the product is available for free, and they likely won't be able to collect damages for it.  Even if they had the inclination or the time for their legal department to deal with it, it's really likely the infringing user wouldn't have the money to pay the judgment.  So better safe than sorry in this case.

I dont see where having the quest book would be a big deal. You still need the Hero stats and the monster stats and the dungeon pieces. It would be nice to have it in a PDF format so you can have it on your tablet without having to have a large booklet out. I mean, sure, I plan on scanning mine for my personal use, but I don't see where having a PDF out there hurts them at all.

Then allow people to register their games (they all come with the stupid Proof of Purchase token) and allow owners to download a PDF. I don't see how it matters. Eventually someone will scan the thing and put it on a bit torrent. I see it as a temporary stall at best. It really only does you any good if you have the minis and map pieces.

It's relatively easy to print out high-res scans of map tiles and build your own, if you're so inclined.  Minis can be proxied or also printed, if you like PnP minis (there is a whole sub-culture for that sort of thing.)  So, if the quest guide was available electronically, there would be precious little to stop people from just making their own copy of the game.

Maybe someone will eventually scan the quest gude and put it up online via some file sharing program (like BitTorrent), but that's hardly a good reason for FFG to do it first.  By that logic, movie studios should just put up full-length copies of all their movies for free download as soon as they hit theaters.  After all, once a movie hits theaters, it's only a matter of time before people start posting bootlegged digital copies of it online.

If the Quest Guide was missing in the box, why not simply ask FFG send a paper copy - or have the retailer do that ?

I can understand the frustration not having a complete game, but I am quite sure that waiting for snailmail to deliver the missing part helps cooling down addictive "need" to have it "here and now".

I don't have an issue with the mail except when it comes the US to Canada system. It usually takes up to 3 weeks for ground shipping.

Apparently, my game shop's hands were tied when it came down to having another game shipped or dealing with the missing guide.(I let it go due to great customer relations with them).

I was hoping to get a few starter quests to learn the game while I waited for the whole guide to arrive.

I have received the first 17 pages of the guide from someone at FFG in pdf form(Thanks a lot for that!) which will allow my group to start playing the game.

I, sir, am in AWE.  Don't get me wrong.  When I have needed FFG's support in the past, they have always been extremely patient and helpful.  Nevertheless, I am surprised and amazed that you were able to get them to generate a PDF (even though partial) of the quest guide.  In all my years on this forum, and using/playing their games, I can't ever remember this happening.
