As far as having bad experiences with 1e, may I ask which aspects of the game you didn't like? Perhaps we can help you figure out if 2e will address the concerns you had about 1e before you go spending any money.
For my money, 2e looks to address more or less all of the concerns I had about 1e by the end of its lifespan. There are a couple of little things I'm not too keen on, but they should be easy enough to house rule if I decide I can't stand them.
I agree with Steve-O about not getting the conversion kit if you aren't getting D2. If you really didn't have a fun time with the first edition why are you bothering with the second??? I'm not trying to push you or anything, but it seems a little odd. Hopefully, you will see that they improved the game with the second edition. I was one of those who didn't think it was possible, but here I am trumpeting for the side of the new edition. I think that the monsters from the first edition are going to be wicked to see in the new edition with the upgrades. I just feel sorry for those who are now just jumping on board.
Too bad the Conversion Kit is not going to be in stores the same time the 2nd Ed is. Kind of dulls the release of 2nd Ed for me. I am still excited just wish they would have released them at the same time.

Where did you hear this? It makes sense because there is no details on how many, and what type of sleeves will be needed.

I got the impression that the Conversion Kit would not ship the same time as the base game from this tread on the Geek.
