New to LCGs - How long is a cycle?

How many force packs make a cycle? Do cards from a cycle go out for tournament play (like Magic) or are all cards allowed all the time? Is a cycle just a way to describe the 'theme' of semi-related force packs? Will there ever be one off force packs?

They are 6 related packs. They never cycle out.

A Force Pack cycle is normally made up of 6 packs.

However, there are also "big box" expansions, which are sort of stand alone. We already know there will be two of those from the Core set rulebook (the expansions for Scum and Villainy / Smugglers and Spies as well as the multiplayer expansion). Based on other LCG, they release those big box once every cycle or two, but there's no set pattern established.

The Lord of the Rings LCG also has Print on demand expansions, although that distribution model probably won't be applied to the other LCG.

Finally, two of the longest-running LCG (Call of Chtulu and Warhammer Invasion) have now moved away from the monthly pack / cycle distribution model and will now be only expanding via regularly released big box (one box every 3 or 4 months).

So on the ones that have moved away of from the monthly cycle (Warhammer and Call..), although I though that the Game of Thrones was their first LCG, does that mean that they think that pool is drying up?

No, those two are the least popular so they made the change. CoC was the first LCG.
