I don't know where those examples come from, but that sounds like errata to me - not the total redesign of a game.

Actually, it comes from a design flaw, and since the release of Forbidden Alchemy, they may look carefully at what they want us to buy.

I will keep my hopes up for coop/solo play as a base. If not, it won't be a game for me.

There are already many Star Wars PvP games (SWCCG, Young Jedi, Jedi Knight, SWTCG etc) I don't see the point of adding another one to the list. After a few years the player base vanishes. A solo option would provide a longer lifespan.

The Middle Earth Card Game (Iron Crown) was both PvP and had a decent solo option - why not have the mechanics for both?

One thing still keeps me thinking about this: FFG announced that they have the rights to make Star Wars card games, and that they intend to make Star Wars card games. So why on Earth would they trash all the work they've done on this first game, when they could just incorporate the 'missing' element (pvp) into one of the subsequent games?

I mean, I've no doubt they want their first kick at the Star Wars cat to have the broadest appeal. But if you think they must have been in development (design, artwork) for a year before they announced this thing, then that's almost two years' worth of wasted time and resources, which is two years' worth of wasted money.

It just doesn't add up. Man, I wish I could be a fly on the wall at FFG right now.

Why… are these boards… so… slooooooow?

Unfortunately, it looks like it isn't going to be co-op anymore.

Co-op is no longer mentioned in the description and in addition I see this "Players will launch fleets of starships and direct some of the most famous heroes and villains in the Star Wars galaxy."  So now the players can be villains, so my guess it is now PvP.

This just kind of ruined my day a little. I hope that it comes able to play either solo/coop or PvP, because there is no point for me to get this otherwise. I collected the Decipher SWCCG from the start and found exactly ZERO players. I kept buying them hoping I'd run into someone, but never did. The only card shop within an hour went out of business right after I made a big purchase there and I never got to ask them if they knew players. I knew 2 people ever who played this and they were my brother's college friends who are 6 years older, plus didn't live near me. If it had been just a few years later, I would have been able to hook up with tons of people via the internet.

if this is ture then they just lost at least 1 player for sure...

Sick of FFG terrible forum software? Why not try chatting at CardGameDB a site dedicated to Living Card Games and at the moment criminally under populated. Lets all move to that forum!!

This is a re-post from the NY Toy fair, but it is relevant here.

Here are pictures from the Fantasy Flight Booth showing that the box now says A Card Game of Galactic Conflict for 2 Players.

Here is the box they had from last year's GenCon. It says A Card Game of Galactic Conflict for 1-4 Players*

I know that the following is not a Star Wars reference: KAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHNNNNNNNNNNNNNN!!!!!

And here I thought I'd be buying 3x core sets. Let's make that 0 instead now.

 Sad trombone...

So much for picking up this game.  I have plenty of PvP card games already...

Fun lesson to be learned by FFG here. While many pvp folks were complaining about the cooperative aspect of the game, it seems that many solo/cooperative players were quietly waiting to buy the game, but are now moving on to greener pastures. Shame.

How is it anything like that?

Everything seems different in the morning

Last night, after seeing those pictures of the new box, showing this to be a game for 2 players, it seemed like the die was cast and the SW LCG is now player vs player, but after thinking about it for a bit, I'm not entirely sure that's true. Aside from the fact that this is only a demo box and so may well not be the final product, the February 6th "update" announcement stated that they were putting it back into development to produce "a truly groundbreaking game experience" (or words to that effect, at any rate).

Let's face it, PvP is absolutely not groundbreaking, there are hundreds of card games to choose from if you want that, including many with the same IP. While Lord of the Rings states it can be played by 1-2 players, and Warhammer: Invasion states "for 2 players", I don't really think having the Star Wars game also be just "for 2 players" could cut the mustard as being "groundbreaking", because that ground is already there in the shape of the Warhammer game. So I hope all the recent speculation about it being solo/co-op and PvP turns out to be true, and the final box has a change of text there.

The other thing, of course, is that it could well still be co-op, with both players playing the same side. That it is now "for 2 players" rather than "1-4 players" doesn't really cement anything down (though I grant that it's more likely not...)

It's exactly like that.  Many people (Kid #1) were happy it was a solo-co-op version. "Mmm, that's a good lollipop!"  Others (Kid #2) complained that it wasn't PvP.  "I want that lollipop!"  FFG removes lollipop from Kid #1 and gives it to Kid #2.  Granted, Kid #2 wasn't going to be happy to begin with, without having a lollipop.  But many would say, there are already many PvP Star Wars card game lollipops.   I was hoping that in their retooling of the game, FFG would make it (like WoW:CCG or Rune Age) so it could be solo, co-op AND PvP.  Everyone would have a lollipop.

Of course, we don't know for sure that it will be PvP, but changing it from "1-4 players" to a strict "2 players" is a very strong indication of that, which would jibe with all of FFG's other PvP LCGs.

Sure, everything could change, and that box could just be the current iteration or an incorrect mockup or whatever.  But changing it from "1-4 players" to a strict "2 players" is a very strong indication of a change to PvP, which would jibe with all of FFG's other PvP LCGs.
