I downloaded everything yesterday and was able to play a simple 50 point offline game with it even though I couldn't find the maneuver dials. If I can find those and get a squad set and saved ahead of time so I don't have to waste so much time setting up all the stats on each ship before playing I'll probably be looking to play this weekend.

I have a file saved with every ship and pilot prebuilt and all the dials and templates for each as well.  Those that play or add me are welcome to copy and save the file, makes playing and list making so easy.

I was planning to do new ones as needed and save them each for future use once I had them done.

So let me preface this by saying… this is my experience with Vassal. But, I'm having hard time finding people in real life to play X-Wing with… so maybe this will work!

I've got Vassal installed, and all the modules setup. I was just trying to mess around with an offline game first. Do you really have to setup each of the ships everytime you start a new game? I got 2 ships in… and gave up!

Is there any way to do it once, and then save it? Or does anyone else have that kind of file I can use? Like I said - I'm a newbie to Vassal… looking for any advice. Thanks in advance!

To save your ships you need to make a log file.  Here's how I build my lists.

  1. I Grab all my cards, update all my ships, and add all my chits. ( I build my list on the map )
  2. I go up to the top and hit file -> Begin Logfile…
  3. I name file something that lets me know what this list is. ( I have a lot of lists)
  4. I select all, then delete everything.
  5. I hit the undo key.
  6. I go up to the top and hit file -> End Logfile…

Now you have a log file that saves your build.  To use the log file you can either load it as a saved game when you first get on, or you can go up to file -> Load Continutation.  Then all you have to do is step through your logfile.  I built a generic ships and dials log file for both Rebels and Imperial.  I made all the ships.  I use these as a starting point when I make new lists, so I don't have to do all the work over again.  Once you get the hang of making log files you can figure out what ever system works for you.  If you have any questions about this let me know, and I can try and walk you through it.

Is there a way, or could you share your generic setup list as a file that we can download and place in our Vassal/X-wing directory?

Clearly - I'm an idiot. When I "load configuration" - all I see is "

- Loading ImperialSetup.vlog …

- Loaded ImperialSetup.vlog

And then nothing happens? I don't see anything in any of my panels… am I missing something?

That happened to me too, but then I selected File> Close Game.

And then right after, I selected File> Load Game.

Select Imperial or Rebel file.

When it loads, you may have to select Solitaire or Player 2, doesn't matter.

Then open the Map. All the ships are there.
