Starfield Maps
Published on 28 September 2012 - 19:11:58

Just thinking about map size for Xwing, not made the purchase yet but will in a few weeks and want to have a proper play surface to play on when it arrives.

My friend has pointed out a few options and i like the looks of these from the Wargame Vault the best.

Would anyone recommend the corsec fabric maps for this game and are the sizes 108'' by 58'' or 72'' by 42'' large enough for the Xwing game.

Appreciate your comments :)

Recommended play size for 100 point games is 3x3 feet, so 36"x36" so these mats are actually too big unless you have some massive massive fleets going. The ships would be able to fly away from the engagement and never get the fight going if someone chose.

You don't need to use all the map do you?  Its always better to get bigger then you have the option for larger games.  Don't like these images myself as they are to 'busy', this site has a ton of useful images you could use:  javascript:void(0);/*1348843150559*/

Absolutely you can go with the "reserve space" theory, but the questioner said that they had not purchased the game yet, so I was assuming they did not know that there was a recommended play area size.

The "official" size is 3'x3'.

I just went to Joann fabrics and bought a 3' x 6' piece of black felt that has glitter in it.

This Starfield fabric is available at Wal Mart. Not my pic, but identical to what we use for games.

I use the same Walmart fabric.  Sewed to a piece of felt.  Not as pretty as some other mats I've seen but works fine.

I've upped my standards.  Up yours.
