Ever since the game was announced, people have been speculating as to what would be included among subsequent "waves" of miniatures. Many have realized that there simply aren't that many different fighters shown in the OT and even the introduction of medium-sized ships this past week at GenCon has left fans scratching their heads about what other "medium" ships showed up in the OT much less what could plausibly fall into the presumptive "large" category. However it pans out, I'm sure FFG will not disappoint.
As a separate matter, I'm interested in getting some repaints. I ordered a 6' x 4' Hotz mat for this game and eventually want to use the whole thing! It would be awesome to have four to six players at a table commanding squadrons of Alliance and Imperial fighters. I'd even like to see a more "crowded" two-player game. So, while it is cool to have a mess of X-Wings and A-Wings from Red Squadron, how about some X-Wings with green or one of the beautiful blue A-Wings from the RotJ concept art? FFG would have purchases of at least three repaints of each ship from me, that's for sure.

I'd buy repaints too. It's probably a limited market so not likely but I would support it. Congrats on the mat purchase!

I'd *eventually* buy repaints but I'd rather they focus on getting a variety of ships out there for the first 6 months at least. After they finish with the most obvious choices from the original trilogy, I'd rather have them choose another half dozen from the EU in the same approximate timeframe (20 BBY to 20 ABY) before coming out with redone versions or switching to a different time period (like the clone wars).

I agree that the market for repaints would be limited but I'd be surprised if a repaint production run really cost that much. They might be a good exclusive, for example, for certain retailers or even FFG's own online shop. What I really would NOT like to see is repaints as tournament prizes or exclusive to certain cons. While that kind of "trophy item" has a certain appeal, it encourages a ridiculous after market

There's a big assumption that this game will expand into all eras but I don't think that is well justified. While it might be neat in some ways, I think the franchise could really stand focusing on the OT after the last decade of endlessly pushing out the boundaries of the EU and the prequels. The recently announced SW RPG line, for example, seems to be exclusively Rebellion-era for at least the next three years (at least as a matter of core books).

Agreed and seconded. I am really tired of seeing an OT Lego set with PT characters on it. I think of them as separate universes, really. I mean, there are some similarities, but they are really forced and only there to make you go "oh, I see George connected the dots." I would love to have them stick with the OT for a while.
Waiting on the eventual Rogue Shadow or Outrider ships. Maybe even mercenary/neutral ships like the Virago.
I wouldn't mind repaints given as prizes, so long as they aren't including new pilot data. Winning an event should not be a barrier to bring certain pilots, IMO. If all they're doing is just swapping the ID colors on the model, I'm cool with that, but if they're including new pilots in them, they should be made availible to the public at large. Repaints with new pilots and may be exploring the EU is probably the best way to expand the game past the movies. I would think that some ships from the prequels would be cute as "legacy" ships. Even making more formal shuttle and carrier ships (like the ones they escorted out of Hoth) would be neat, as the shuttle token in the starter isuseful, but a bit bland compared to the 3-D ships zooming about. They've already half-confirmed the Turbolaser Batteries, so little extras and the like are likely the order of the day once we get the basics out.
YES! Repaints + New Cards -- that is the type of expansion I am interested in. Forget about Naboo starfighters, etc, just give more tactical depth to the Galactic Civil War.

That's the way I see it going. Having new expansions with repainted ships and new cards is the best way to make it marketable, and also expand the game. It would be awesome to have several squads (flight groups) of X-wings zipping around the board: "Red group, gold group: all fighters follow me!"
Some people play to win. I play because it's one of the few ways to fly an X-wing here on Earth!

Holy crap. You just blew my mind. I didn't even think of color squads. This would be epic. Maybe, when you have a 2v2 or 3v3 game, the squad rules would be in effect.
Well, let's hope James Kniffen is reading this!

I'm not in the market for any repaints until all the original trilogy ships have hit the market. After that, sure.

I hear that. I am surprised that they announced wave 2 so soon. I'm not ready for it: I haven't even played the game yet! Repaints should be released far down the line.

That's kind of what prompted me to start this thread. We know the next four releases. After that, there are two other "small size" ships to be released from the OT, namely the TIE Bomber and the B-Wing (the "heavy hitters"). At that point, there's not much more to release from the OT in either of the two known size categories and maybe only one ship that could be feasibly released at the large category (and I'd bet the Rebel Transport would probably be at least 70 USD). So instead of just blithely moving on to the prequels, which don't even speak to the brand, I'd like to see the tactical depth increased via cardboard. But the game is a miniatures game first and foremost. It's hard to see where this product is going sans releases of little plastic spaceships. So my proposed solution is repaints. You get new rules and a new squadron paintjob.

Well, we have in the initial wave of boosters the X-Wing & TIE. They're barely even suitable as "repaints," yet there they are (well, they ARE the two most iconic fighters, granted). I could totally see a green A-Wing with new pilots, on down the line. Mebbe even a red TIE Interceptor.
ALL THAT SAID, don't think for a moment Clone Wars ships aren't coming - if the game's successful. It's just plain money.
Thus do I undo all Gordian Knots!
