Is the book worth getting for someone who just plays Axis and Allies?  Or is the only thing such a person would want out of it is the stats for the new medium walkers?

Pretty sure it has rules for a campaign too.

I would suggest getting it because they have flyer rules which one day you may end up playing someone who has flyers and you'll keep going "They can do what now!?" Also It has two new tank Variants for Allies (Cobra and Rattler) and 2 new tank variants for Axis (Flam luther and the Lazer one)

I don't know anyone else with the game - I play mainly with my wife and a couple of friends - don't see me playing against SSU any time soon.

But I definitely plan on getting flyers for the Axis and Allied units when they are released, so when that time comes, perhaps I will pick up the book.

Thanks!

Yeah Felkor, in your position I'd probably hold off. However, when I get my hands on my copy later today, I'll PM you if there's something in it I'd want if I were in your position.

@ Emilio68it - I wouldn't hold my breath for a PDF of this one. I'm hopeful, but it's a $20 softcover which they may not do in PDF. If they do, it could be months down the road based on FFG's PDF releases in the past. Dust Warfare Core Rules were an anomaly due to selling out of the entire 1st print run in record time. They didn't want to lose momentum, as rules sales = model sales = profit.

They also include 3 player rules and scenarios, if that's something you would like. If you have axis or allies then there's nothing huge just those two new medium walkers (which are fantastic).

Also played a game last night 200 points axis vs ssu, and wrecked with ssu. their close combat squad with the air transport is great. 36" strike range is ridiculous

3 player rules would actually really rock - could make it easier to get the game out when I have friends over.

Honestly, I hope I'm wrong. It won't hurt me either way, as I like having a printed copy at home, and a PDF for my iPad, which always goes with me to the game shop. Please don't base your decision solely on my beliefs, as they may release a PDF next week for all I know. I just doubt it.

Got mine on saturday, No new axis or allied platoons. They just added the new tanks which you can take if it says any medium walker in the platoon structure.

The SSU only has 2 platoons, a defense and a political platoon.

That's pretty crap, They know what models are being released this year so whats wrong with putting in the platoon lists for the Guards so we can have all of the SSU lists in one book!

Because, and I am very serious about this as I know for a fact it was the case, when they wrote the book and sent it of to the printers they didn't know which units were coming out atm. Everything in the book was everything they knew was coming out AT THE TIME for SSU. NOW they know of new units coming and all and can work on that. It takes Several MONTHS at the printers to get a book printed bound and shipped to distribution centers around the world. Not even Joking, people are not aware that it is between 4-6 months after a book has been sent off for printing before it hits shelves. It's the same pretty much across the board even in the big companies like GW.

Additionally there are many SSU units that are in the SSU book that haven't had their models released for Dust Tactics yet. Like the combat helicopter and a few others. It doesn't take much to announce an upcoming model for Dust studios all you need is a produced model and the stats. Then they announce it, then they have to began production on it which takes a while (again looking at almost 6 months out before the model hits shelves).

So, this was a contentious subject on the Tactics side, so I'm wondering about Warfare.  Do the Nikita's artillery weapons require an out of ammo token?

I believe the reload is there, however, it does have burst unlike the other artillery weapons. It's also not a spray weapon so you'll pretty much be rolling 6 or 7 dice when you attack.

We don't have "out of Ammo" really just reload. The only one shot items are the bombs on attack helicopters. As for Nikita's weapons they have the Artillery and Grenade special rules neither of which causes you to need to reload.
