A friend of mine suggested the idea of making "Dark" Investigators to replace ones that are devoured, so I made up a few. The design scheme behind them is that they have pretty dramatic effects, but they're only accessible through chance. If you're in for a harder game you can house rule that replacement Investigators have to be chosen from among these guys, or if you want a real challenge you can just start out with them ;P

Fantastic concept!
I just didn't understand the part whee "if X is the Ancient One, you are devoured". Does it happens when the Ancient One awakens or does it prevent the character from being played in a game where that specific Ancient One is the enemy?

Glad you like them! It means they die instantly, like at the start of the game. Meaning the Doom track goes up one and you get a new person. It's mostly just for flavor, but it could result in some interesting starts if you draw a random Ancient One after picking Investigators, or draw only from these Investigators after your first one is devoured, ect.
