Dark Eldar Kabalites and Wyches as PCs?
Published on 21 October 2012 - 14:52:49

Has anyone tried integrating the Dark Eldar PC classes from Rogue Trader's 'The Soul Reaver' and the web supplement 'The Dark Kin' into their Black Crusade games?

Some ideas:

Hanging around with outright champions of chaos may well give them the same corruption as the other PCs but with no gifts, just their own mechanic. Insanity points aren't an issue and infamy can work much the same. I'd say the RT advance scheme is fine, with a few appropriate elite advances and allowing Infamy purchases.

It's an interesting idea, especially with one of the suggested NPCs in Broken Chains being a Dark Eldar prisoner. Not a huge fan of crossing over lines too much but I might just have to give this a try.

I think its kind of cool and it could probably work BUT unless I'm mistaken you might need to come up with some rules for how Dark Eldars use torment to avoid Slaanesh…or just play one that don't give a damn but embrace Chaos. That would also work.

Motto to life: Let the galaxy burn!

Number of Chapters I'm working on: ~60

Finished Chapters: Smoking Fists

Other projects: Feras (Xenos race)

Touched by the Alien (Dark Heresy Campaign)

As they will never likely be leading a black crusade against the imperium, and they would likely not consider apotheosis much of a reward, I would leave thier corruption stuff alone personally. I would also not have them be foreced to dedicate themselves to a chaos power, and just use the unaligned costs for all purchases. That way when your group is finished (via all humanish players being turned into chaos spawn/deamonprinces, or achieving the power to start thier crusade) the dark eldar players go thier own way and could reappear as powerful NPCs in later games.

The Dark Eldar hate Chaos, but a bit differently than their Craftworld kin. Even though their ancestors were responsible for the Fall and their hedonistic and self-indulgent lifestyle is very similar to that of Chaos they find giving into such powers to be incredibly weak. They are an arrogant people and don't take servitude well at all. Slaanesh is still "She Who Thirsts" to the Dark Eldar and practicing psychic powers in the Dark City is punishable by a very slow tormented death.

You could use the rules as a basis for the Crone World Eldar though. Perhaps Slaanesh "released" a few for service abroad and their ships (a blend of DE and CE technologies) are seen more commonly.

The whole "Dark Eldar despise Chaos" thing always seemed to be blown way out of proportion, imo. In editions past it's been commented on that they have served as mercenaries for Chaos forces, the price usually being slaves of course. The new Codex makes no mention of specific enmity against Chaos, aside from She Who Thirsts, which is a rather special case, since Slaanesh is actively trying to eat their souls. In fact all of the cited battles against Chaos (in the codex) seem for more pragmatic reasons than "hurr Chaos!" Like stopping them from breaking more of the WebWay, or.. because it's fun.

And Tome of Blood even flat out mentions that Dark Eldar like to travel to a specific world in the Vortex, the world of Kurse, to view the fighting pits there. Or to fight in them, even.

What I'm getting at here, is that the Dark Eldar don't really seem to care overly much about any othe race or faction in the galaxy, and in fact, couldn't care less. Unless it somehow pertains to their personal gratification. This is the same race that saw the galaxy-devouring horror of the Tyranids and thought, "I bet those would be great in a cage match".

"Would you like to travel across entire sectors in months, rather than years? Would you like to blast people with warp energy? Would you like to have an extra eye? Come down to Fabius Bile's Gene Emporium, and become a New Man!"
