Guarding when downed

As I understand it, if my lineman is tackled and down, he loses his abilities, therefore I believe he can no longer Guard another player in the same highlight. Is this right?

??? You've answered your own question. When a player is downed, he has NOTHING except his downed Star rating. Everything else is "off".
