Bones of the Child
Published on 16 February 2012 - 16:05:13

Just started reading the fifth book and in one of the first dany chapters, at the end of it, people are coming into her court to petition her for money for farm animals and such the Drogon burned and ate. After that a teary eyed man with a sack comes forth and spills the burned bones of his child.

Their is a card called bones of the child with art of a sad man with a sack of bones. But this card is either core set or soon after and pre-dates the fifth book.

Does the FFG staff get spoilers/advance copies of the books form GRRM? is there mention of bones of the child in other four books? how does the card pre-date the book? are there other examples of cards pre-dating book releases?

Yeah FFG has been getting spoilers from GRRM since the game started. They got to see sample chapters from Feast and Dance back when they were all one book. Its how we got cards like Horn of Dragons even though Feast wasn't out yet.

To be fair, FFG didn't really have particularly specialized or advanced knowledge on either of these cards.

The Dany chapter than ends with the "bones of a child" was up as a Feast for Crows and a Dance With Dragons sample chapter on GRRMs website, and circulated as publisher samples for Feast, as early as 2004. Almost all of the Feast for Crows Greyjoy chapters, including the Kingsmoot and the Horn of Dragons, were published as a novella in May 2003 in Dragon Magazine.

The "bones of a child" scene had been fairly common knowledge for about 7 years before the publication of Dance. So don't think the staff at FFG knows much more than any of the rest of us, or much sooner than the rest of us.

There is a fine line between 'hobby' and 'mental illness.'
