Co-op?
Published on 21 April 2010 - 14:51:39

I am unfamiliar with the original game.  Since this comes with Solo rules, does anyone think it may play coop as well?...

It isn't really possible to play co-op in Dungeonquest as you start at different corners of the castle and travel along corridors that you discover along the way. You will likely die before you even meet another character on your travels!

And even if you did meet up with another adventurer you wernt allowed to enter the same room (meaning some blocking tactics could be used).

I'm unfamiliar with the original version of this game, but I am interested in it due to the solo play ability. I'll follow the announcements on this game, and if things look cool I will definitely consider picking this up.

i dont know. It sounds really great but id love for it to be Co-op as well. Like a Descent without the overlord. That would be my favorite game of all time!

I'm sure someone will come up with something to help make co-op a possibility.

I agree.  I used to play this game a lot, and as I remember it would be possible to do a co-op version with a little tweaking.  It would be a bit like playing solitaire with two characters.

We don't really know what tweaking FFG might do for the game just yet.  Lets just wait and see.

For the record, DungeonQuest (the original) has very, very little in common with Descent. Basically, you make a mad dash through a random maze of dungeon rooms trying to reach the dragon's hoard at the center, grab some treasure and get out alive. Along the way, you hope (probably in vain) to not get killed by monsters and traps.

Ok, that does sound like Descent doesn't it? :D

But really, the two are very different in how they feel. DungeonQuest isn't a "gain new weapons, advance in power, battle monsters" sort of game. Its a "gain a feeling of certain doom, decrease your hp, try to dodge monsters if you can". It would take a pretty drastic change to make it co-opable.

I'll post my rules for Descent: No Overlord in the Descent forum :)

For me, being able to play solo is more important than playing co-op.  I own several games for co-op play, but not as many with solo play built in (without having to make a lot of changes).  There's definitely less calling and planning involved for a solo game.

In fact, in the second edition of the original game from Sweden called Drakborgen - legenden, there are rules for co-op playing which makes it possible to fight other monsters together or killing eachother.
