Hello. I need some clarification on recruiting new units. In the Banners rule book it states:

"Each of the new units can be recruited in place of a unit from the base game (as pictured on the reinforcement sheet)."

Can this only be done with the Recruit Order card or anytime one has the chance to recruit a base unit, like from a Tactics Card or Season Card?

 I agree.  The only time I would say you can't do it is with the Reinforcement card, because with that card you recruit based on unit shape, not unit type, and thus you can just recruit the new units directly.  Really, this won't matter for most units, but this means you can't use it to say you are recruiting 2 Pegasus Riders (Rectangle) and then say you're replacing them with 2 Forest Guardians (Hexagon); if you want Forest Guardians, you choose the Hexagon option and only get 1.

Also, for what it's worth, each race only has one replacement unit that can be recruited at the start of the game (the others replace non-starting units), and in my (thus far limited, admittedly) experience, the replacement units aren't as good for "starting" units, but become more useful in the mid-to-late game.
