The Battlelore New Years Resolution! (Pt 3: Creature Feature! )
Published on 16 February 2011 - 16:38:16

Well, I spent most of my free time working on my battlelore board the last couple weeks…but I did take a break to paint a few figures every now and then. I got lazy and decided to work on some of the BIG figures. I haven’t hit the Dragons yet (not sure what to do with those poorly placed banners) but, I did get my ccrreeaattuurreess finished, along with any lairs I needed.

If anyone wants to trade my spare (unpainted) Hill Giant for their spider from the core set, let me know (I need a Blue Widow).

The Creature Feature…

This dramatic stone pile was made from rocks in my driveway.

The summoning circle was made out of clay.

The Vortex is just painted…pretty lame, but I couldn’t come up with a more “dramatic”, yet practical, alternative.

Finally, the biggest challenge was the Forest Giants Lair. That big tree in the back is attached to the base (you know…cause it’s a forest!), and the rest was built out of…wait for it…popsicles sticks dyed green.

If you want, you can come over and paint my whole set!   :)   Very nice by the way.

Grubman,

Regarding the placement of the banners on the Dragons - I thought the exact same thing, why are they not in the back like the other creatures.  Plus I didn't like the way the Dragons faced off to the side, when their hex base was aligned with the board hexes.

My solution was to use a bench grinder to carefully grind (sand) off the hex points, converting the Dragon bases to more of an oval like that of the Rock/Earth Elemental.  Just be careful to watch your fingers when sanding down the points!  Next I took my cordless drill and carefully placed a new banner hole behind the Dragon (where it should have been) - just make sure you plan for where the banner will be positioned so that it won't interfere witth the wings.  Finally, when I painted the Dragons I just filled the original banner holes with paint.  The end results are very nice and worth the effort, if I do say so myself.

Well I took a few photos tonight, but I have no idea how to post them within this reply - certainly not a simple copy and paste.

You have to host them elsewhere (like photobucket), then use the image link (the little mountain icon) when posting.
