A question on fuedal levy tokens
Published on 10 January 2009 - 17:21:37

When replacing a fuedal levy token, is it alright to replace the token with say a green goblin swordsmen, the logic being that these are still foot units; after all the rules only say to not replace the fuedal levy token with a creature, hero, or Etc. I guess the question is, do goblins and dwarves count as Etc?

Also, even if goblins and dwarves are not alowed, what about remaining human spearmen, since they are still classified as human foot units?

It really should be any non-Specialist unit.  Spearbearers and such are out.  I would allow Goblins and Dwarves - only the basic units once again.

But it is your game and you should play how you want.  Just notify the other player and agree on it before you start the game.

IIRC, the official stance was to allow all units of that color, even specialists, but no creatures.

I don't recall if that was the official stance or not.

The problem with allowing that, however, is that Levy tokens are replaced in Step 4.4 and the Specialist are called in Step 4.6.  So 1) these units have a chance to get upgraded just like every other unit and 2) it's not fair that a levy token replacement gets a jump on the specialist procedure.

But if I am not remembering correctly, someone will be along in a minute to help us find the official answer.

I was taken aback that this Q&A was from just over a year ago - the lost year of BattleLore

Q: Can Specialist units replace Levy Tokens as long as the "color" rules are applied?
A: Yes

Half the world sits on the other half and gloats

I have a new question on the same topic .

Is it possible to make a green human cavalry unit to replace a token. Even though you can not get green cavalry in any other way whether it be a scenario or deployment card. (The reason for them not making green human cavalry because it would make goblin cavalry weaker in comparison)

Officially, no because the unit does not yet exist.  But feel free to mix and match your units and banners and create the green cavalry if you want.
