What makes a Silverline game?

Just curious how they decide on silver line games. The Red October is new but on there. Arkham horror is a remake and a high money maker but not on there. Just trying to figure this out. Guess I am bored.

It appears to be a price point to me.   They also tend to have less touchy, feeling things to them.

I believe the intent behind SL is for FFG to have a line that is easier on the wallet, and lighter on the rules.  As opposed to the main line which is inteneded for the more serious gamer.  Silver line tends to be more family friendly and good entry games for non-gamers.  The only one I own is Cave Troll.  But I may get a few more, because I play a lot with young kids.  The Hobbit would be a good SL game.

The "serious gamer" thing is mostly true, but not entirely. Through the Desert is about as hard-core as it gets, though in a very different way than for Twilight Imperium or such.  But they're definitely all cheaper games, and with a smaller box so they get fewer fancy components than the big box stuff.

I have a bunch of these Silver Line games. They rock. They're mostly easy to learn, they don't have a lot of bits/items for the game, they're not as expensive as most games. In my opinion, these are what makes them winners!

I have Red November, Anima, Chaos Marauders, Cave Troll, Citadels, CIA vs. KGB, Aye Dark Overlord and Drakon. I hope to add Through the Desert to my collection when they reprint that.

Try them out! They rock rock rock!

People with destinies, things never go well for them. They die old and unfulfilled or young and unfinished.

The downside is I feel like we don't play the SL games as much.  Fun every once in a while when we want something light, but I'd rather play a more complicated game most of the time

The trouble with having an open mind, of course, is that people will insist on coming along and trying to put things in it.  -Terry Pratchett
