Alternate Art Cards at Game Night
Fantasy Flight Games
Published on 26 February 2013 - 14:36:58

In December, we announced 2013 Season One Game Night Kits, which are designed to help retailers and tournament organizers run tournaments, leagues, and casual game nights.

Each of the 2013 Season One Game Night Kits for our Living Card Games features several cards that will need to be shuffled into larger decks to use. The kit for Star Wars™: The Card Game includes alternate cards with text in Aurebesh, while the kit for The Lord of the Rings: The Card Game includes new “Nightmare Decks” that combine with existing Encounter decks to increase the game’s difficulty. Similarly, each of our other four LCG Game Night Kits contain alternate art cards intended to be shuffled into their games’ respective decks.

Now that these kits are arriving in stores, we see confusion among some players because of the slight difference in the color and texture of these cards. This is because they were manufactured through our Print on Demand process, which typically results in subtle color and texture variations from Core Set cards. Therefore, these cards will require opaque card sleeves to use in competitive play.

Why Use Print on Demand Cards for Game Night Kits?

Print on Demand offers us a degree of adaptability and nimbleness not possible through our traditional printing methods. Due to the aggressive timetable from the time we gauge interest in Game Night Kits to the time we deliver them, our standard printing method would be prohibitive.

We apologize for any confusion this may have caused, and for not making this clear from the beginning.
