3-Star Infantry
by Erik Lind
When building your armies, you are given several options: whether you want to fill a slot with an AFV or infantry, whether or not you want to put in one- or two-star infantry, etc. Another question you may ask yourself is, "Why do I want to put three-star infantry in my platoon if they cost so much?" This is an excellent question that has troubled many commanders when constructing their forces. So the question remains… why three-star infantry?

Three-star infantry are the cream of the crop when it comes to your army's infantry. These soldiers are battle-hardened and ready for anything. They don't have to be fielded in large numbers due to their understanding of the battlefield. Even so, don't be fooled into thinking a three-star infantry will be easy to properly order around in battle.

There are many benefits of having three-star infantry in your platoon. One of these is their sheer power. For the most part, a three-star unit's weapons are powerful. With each unit having two weapons, six shots can be fired off per activation, allowing for some severe destruction to your targeted enemy. Watching an entire enemy unit turn into a dusty crater gives you the instant gratification that three-star infantry can provide.
Another factor that makes these soldiers daunting is their armor. Taking one of these down with a regular one- or two-star infantry is certainly a task. Plus, if they have cover and dig in, good luck trying to land one hit.

Bad for both sides
Although three-star infantry are powerful because of how many soldiers there are in a unit, this benefit is not without any disadvantage. If you are playing against an opponent that relies on mortar fire, it is going to be a tough match. Even though the mortar might have a tough time doing damage to your three-star infantry, it will ground them as long as the blast radius is large enough and will delay them for a round. Even if they survive the grounding, each round you can only upright them, resulting in a useless unit.
Another thing to be watchful for is leaving them in the open. Taking casualties with a three-star unit can be devastating. Even if one soldier is eliminated, that unit is drastically reduced in power.

Deciding whether or not to use three-star infantry can give a commander something to think about. They do have a high cost when compared to one- or two-star infantry, but when you see the destruction they can deal, you learn to take the hit in point value.
Whatever you choose, may your decision lead your forces to victory!
